Course Information

Advanced Placement Calculus AB/BC

• This course is taken for 2 semesters. By the time the school-year ends, you will have completed Calculus AB and Calculus BC.

• Prerequisites:  Successful completion (an 80 or higher average) of Pre-calculus or Accelerated Pre-Calculus, along with that teacher’s recommendation (see below); completion of summer assignment*; signed WCPS AP contract (also see reverse); superior work ethic; strong organizational skills; excellent study habits; above average algebra and trigonometry skills.

• Course Description:  This course follows the College Board topical outline for the Advanced Placement Calculus courses and examinations (http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/Controller.jpf).  This course is an introductory college-level calculus course. Students cultivate their understanding of differential and integral calculus through engaging with real-world problems represented graphically, numerically, analytically, and verbally and using definitions and theorems to build arguments and justify conclusions as they explore concepts like change, limits, and the analysis of functions.

• AP Review Book: You may purchase “Cracking the AP Calculus AB/BC Exam” 2023 edition by the Princeton Review. This is one of the best review books that I have found. This is optional.

• SUMMER ASSIGNMENT: Create a Calculus Reference Book containing information pertaining to common concepts and functions. The description of the assignment along with the rubric will need to be picked up from Ms. Head in room D110 before you leave for the summer.

• Instructor:     Angie Head [email protected] - (1st Semester)
Jeremy Mulkey [email protected] (2nd Semester)

A teacher recommendation is required.
