Physical Education

Within the PE department, it is our philosophy to promote awareness of the value of physical activity in the pursuit of happier, healthier, more productive lives. It is our goal as physical educators to help students learn about and enjoy the benefits of physical activity.

Fitnessgram

Each student that is enrolled in PE each quarter will participate in a mandated fitness assessment called the FITNESSGRAM. In order to measure physical gains of each student, we will do both a pre and post assessment (meaning we will assess during the first week and the last week of each quarter) so that we are able to document improvements being made.

The 5 components of the assessment include:
1. Aerobic Capacity: The One-Mile Run
2. Body Composition: Height/Weight
3. Abdominal Strength: Curl-Up
4. Upper Body Strength: Push-Ups
5. Flexibility: Back-Saver Sit and Reach

Athletic Training

The athletic training that takes place in the PE department is a training program that serves as the foundation for any athlete, as well as the platform to continue to develop and enhance athletic performance throughout the athletes entire career.  Its purpose is to provide a better understanding and implementation of basic movement patterns with a long term development approach. The foundation principles are designed for athleticism, core training, power, and efficient movement that translates into a better athlete.  The basis of the program concentrates on the fundamentals of movement, form, body control and spacial awareness.  Its effects are long term and makes for a better all-around athlete.
