ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and Sheltered ELA (English Language Arts)

Welcome, students and parents, to our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and Sheltered ELA (English Language Arts) classes! I am thrilled to have you as part of our diverse and inclusive learning community. Let me give you an overview of what you can expect in this class.

ESOL Class: Our ESOL class is specifically designed to support students who are non-native English speakers. I understand that learning a new language can be challenging, and my primary goal is to help you improve your English language skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. I want you to feel comfortable and confident using English in various situations.

In this class, you'll find:

Inclusive Environment: This class celebrates diversity, and we value the different cultures and languages that each student brings. Everyone's unique perspective enriches our learning experience.

Language Support: I focus on helping you develop your language skills through interactive activities, group discussions, language games, and projects. This way, you'll be able to use English in real-life situations.

Personalized Learning: I understand that each student has different needs and learning styles. I tailor the lessons to cater to individual strengths and areas that need improvement.

Cultural Exchange: I encourage open discussions about your cultures, traditions, and experiences. This creates a sense of belonging and fosters mutual understanding among all students.

Sheltered ELA Class: Our Sheltered ELA class is designed for English language learners who may need additional support in their English language arts studies. This class allows students to learn grade-level content while still developing their language skills.

In this class, you can expect:

Grade-Level Curriculum: I follow the same English Language Arts curriculum as other students in the grade, but I modify it slightly to ensure it aligns with your language proficiency level.

Language Integration: You'll be exposed to various reading materials, including novels, short stories, articles, and poems. This exposure helps improve your reading comprehension and vocabulary.

Writing Development: I focus on improving your writing skills through guided writing exercises, essays, and creative assignments. This will help you express your ideas effectively.

Language Support: I provide language support during class discussions, ensuring that you understand the content and can actively participate.

Cooperative Learning: I encourage group activities and projects, as working together helps build communication and teamwork skills.

My aim is to create a positive and supportive learning environment where all students can excel academically and personally. I am here to support your language development and academic growth every step of the way. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to me. Let's have a fantastic and enriching year together!
