School Resource Officer

Meet Deputy Cox

Hello! My name is Deputy Amanda Cox. I am a Deputy Sheriff for the Walton County Sheriff's Office, Youth Investigations Division. I am excited to serve this year as the  School Resource Officer (SRO) for Walker Park Elementary School! The Youth Investigations Division introduced School Resource Officers in each Walton County elementary school during the 2019-20 school year. Our number one priority is to ensure the safety and security of each school. My personal goal as the acting SRO is to encourage the relationship between the student and law enforcement, building a trust where we may also serve as a mentor, a hero and a protector to each individual child.

Reading with a Resource Officer

Each week, I take time to read to individual classrooms. Some books are silly stories, some are about police officers and others are about simple life lessons such as what to do when you are lost. The older classes and I often find ourselves lost in a mystery chapter book, where I read a few chapters every other week. All of the books are either borrowed from the school library or have been donated by generous community members. If you are interested in donating to this program, please contact me.

Lunch with the SRO

Each month, two students from each grade level (K-5th grade) will be chosen by school staff to have lunch with me, in the spotlight, at my lunch table. Lunch will be provided by the Youth Investigations Division. Students are encouraged to participate in school events, have excellent behavior, appropriate attendance and be an upstanding citizen of the school to be selected for this lunch event. Let's do lunch!
