Pre-K

A student must be four years of age on or before Sept. 1 of the enrolling school year.

The WCSD Pre-K program only serves children who turn four on or before Sept 1. Children who turn five on or before Sept. 1 will need to register for kindergarten. Pre-K is an optional program, and students are not required to complete Pre-K before kindergarten.

While potty training is not required, it is optimal for Pre-K success. We encourage families to support their child in becoming fully potty-trained before the start of school. This includes being able to use the restroom independently, manage clothing, and wash hands. Thank you for partnering with us to help your child have a smooth transition into Pre-K.

A certified birth certificate is preferred. If you do not have a certified birth certificate, please contact our Student Services Department for assistance at (770) 266-4510.

Click here for a complete list of documents accepted for registration. If you do not own your home, do not have a lease or rental agreement, or currently have students in the WCSD school system attending through an affidavit, then you will be required to go through the WCSD Student Services Department to complete a residency affidavit. Please contact Student Services at (770) 266-4510 for additional information.

No, social security cards/numbers are not required to enroll in Georgia’s Pre-K. We request that you bring your child's social security card to registration, but you may decline to provide the number. If you decline to provide your child's SSN, please click here to fill out the waiver and bring the form with you to registration.

Georgia’s Pre-K Program operates just like a school classroom. Parents commit to sending their child to school for the complete day throughout the school year. Children can be unenrolled for being chronically tardy in the morning or being picked up prior to the end of the instructional day.

Regular and consistent pre-kindergarten attendance is required. If your student is absent more than two days per month without medical or other reasonable explanation and/or departs early or arrives late more than once a week, your student can be removed from the program.

Each year, the Walton County School District conducts an electronic lottery-style drawing process in February.

No. Supplies for pre-k are provided within the grant. Classrooms may request donations of classroom consumable supplies such as paper, crayons, glue, cleaning wipes, etc. However, these requests are not a requirement for enrollment or participation in the Pre-K program. You will receive more specific information from your child's teacher at Open House.
