Welcome Back letter from Dr. Griffieth

August 1, 2019

Dear Harmony Families,

Welcome back!  It's hard to believe but it's that time of the year again - the beginning of a new school year. I am delighted that you are a part of our amazing learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.

Please read over the important reminders below. It is imperative that everyone follows these procedures to ensure a smooth opening day and safe school year:   The School day officially begins at 8:40 a.m.; however, students may enter the building at 8:00 a.m.  We will begin our extended learning time at 8:00 a.m.; students will be working on math, journaling, and morning activities. The late bell rings at 8:40 a.m. Students must be escorted to the front office to receive a tardy slip if they arrive after 8:40 a.m.

=         Please do not drop your child off before 8:00 a.m. in the mornings, unless they are attending the Before School Care Program.

=         Car riders should be dropped off in the appropriate drop off zone in the front of the building.  Once your child/children have safely exited the car on the curb side, please pull away from the curb and exit the drop off zone to allow us to make space for students still arriving.

=         In order to build independence and for your child to demonstrate responsibility, please practice school routines in advance. Talk with your child about how he/she will get to and from school. Walk them through the steps so they know what to do each day. This will also lessen some anxiety about the first day; where to go and what to do.

=         Our dismissal will be safe and efficient if everyone is patient and respectful of the safety procedures.  Flag Pole Pick - up will begin on August 5, 2019.  Parents will need to complete an information sheet (get this from Mrs. Rachel Peters in the Media Center). The person picking up your child must be on the pick-up sheet and provide (show) a photo ID.  Flag Pole dismissal will begin at 3:20 p.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Students not picked up by 3:30 p.m. will be sent to car riders.

=         Car rider dismissal will begin at 3:30 p.m. Students will remain in the cafeteria until their names are called. Students will be escorted to their parent’s car. Parents must have an authorized pick-up form displayed in the front windshield of their car (driver side). These forms may be picked up in the front office. * If parents do not have this form they will be asked to park their car and walk into the building to check out their child/children.  Photo Identification will be required.

On the first day of school important information will be shared. Plan to spend some time with this paperwork to ensure you get answers to important questions. Please return all requested forms promptly. Have a great school year!

Sincerely,

 Barbara Griffieth, Ph.D.
