Teachers and Support Personnel of the Year
Fifteen teachers and 17 support staff have been named Teachers and Support Personnel of the Year, following a process that began in September.“This year’s honorees play a vital role in our schools and district. They contribute long hours behind the scenes to serve our students, staff, and parents,” said Superintendent Nathan Franklin. “These outstanding individuals not only inspire all students but have also earned the respect and admiration of their colleagues. I congratulate all of this year’s winners on being acknowledged as the best of the best in Walton County.”

Twelfth grade Language Arts Teacher Sarah Fowler from Loganville High School was named the 2020-21 Walton County School District Teacher of the Year and Monroe Elementary School Instructional Coach Becky Wagoner was named the District Support Person of the Year.

Fowler has been employed at Loganville High School since 2011 and holds a Master’s Degree in Secondary English Education. She has also served as a lead senior advisor and cheerleading coach. She strives to form positive relationships with her students while setting high expectations in her classroom to ensure all students obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful. Fowler believes that it is important to first make an effort to get to know her students on an individual basis in order to meet their individual needs and help them achieve their goals. In her application, Fowler also noted that her genuine care and concern for students’ well-being and education is an innate part of her. She says that it is at the center of everything she does and is, therefore, the most valuable thing she has to offer the teaching profession in Walton County.

Wagoner began her career in education at Monroe Elementary School as a teacher in 2008. She began serving in her current role as an instructional coach in 2019. As the instructional coach, she supports all stakeholders, including teachers, students, parents and administrators. Wagoner says that her mission “is to provide a safe, joyful environment where students are engaged in meaningful learning experiences.” She finds no greater joy than seeing a teacher's confidence grow as they embrace challenges and apply the strategies and practices she’s coached them through.
