Walnut Grove High School Senior Terell Wright has been selected by State School Superintendent Richard Woods as one of 64 Georgia students to serve on the 2020-21 Student Advisory Council. Throughout the school year, these students will meet with Superintendent Woods to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom.
“It's an honor to represent Walton County on the Student Advisory Council this year! As someone who loves policy and comes from a family of educators, this really means a lot to me. I'm looking forward to being able to have a part in our state education policy with Superintendent Woods, a man who I know will value what we have to say and fight for us students, something I find very admirable,” Terell Wright said. “Giving the students a direct voice into how their lives will be impacted once they enter the school building is a serious responsibility that will not be taken lightly. It's especially paramount in times like these that all students are heard and represented. I'm very excited to represent our community and can assure Walton County that I will do so with dignity, honor, and integrity."
The council includes representation from every Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) district in Georgia. Members were selected from a pool of more than 1,400 applicants who applied to serve on the council. Students were chosen based on the strength of their essay answers, which focused on their ideas for public education.
“Terell will be a great representative for the students of Walnut Grove High School and the Walton County School District. He is an exceptional leader who continually seeks out ways to positively influence his peers in our community and beyond,” said WGHS Principal Lindsey Allen. “We are excited for his selection as he will be able to provide our state leaders with ‘ground truth’ on topics that impact our students and their educational experiences.”
The 2020-21 Student Advisory Council's first meeting will be held virtually in November.
