Updated Digital Learning Schedule
Students, Parents/Guardians and Others,

Beginning tomorrow Tuesday March 31, 2020, Monroe Area High School will add Video Classrooms to the current online Distance Learning Model currently used by our teachers.

We have added the Video Classroom for several reasons to include the following:

A.    There is a need to bring a more regimented and normal school day to the students of Monroe Area High School.
B.     Many students are out of sync without the daily routines they have come to rely upon since Kindergarten.  (including going to bed on a normal schedule, getting up, getting on the bus, eating breakfast, bells and more bells, seeing friends, listening to teachers, etc.)
C.     Some students are not engaged in the Distance Learning Model of instruction.
D.    Students have expressed a need and a desire to see and interact with their friends.
E.     Some students are scheduled for multiple course activities at the same time.
F.      Because the date to return to school was extended until April 24, 2020, it was felt that a method of connecting students and teachers would be important. It was determined that an electronic face-to-face format would benefit our students in the teaching and learning process.

Based upon the information above and other contributing factors, a plan has been developed that sets a routine for our students that is simple to understand, easy to use, and effective.

This plan will go into effect tomorrow Tuesday March 31, 2020. Teachers will post more information concerning accessing their Video Classrooms by 9:00 PM tonight.

These times are set aside and reserved for Video Classrooms only.

All teachers will have instructions on signing in and joining their Video Classroom posted to Schoology this evening by 9:00 PM.

In the coming days, individual Teachers will also post times when they will conduct online Office Hours, Small Group sessions, individual tutoring, parent conferences etc.  Course resources, assignments, and assessments will continue to be posted regularly to Schoology.

We are also introducing an Attendance Support component that will assist the teachers in contacting those students who fail to join the Video Classroom or who have failed to start assignments or complete any work over the past few weeks. Similar to our automated system, our “Live” team will use all available resources in order to contact the students and parents whose names have been provided by the teachers.

Knowing that technology can be unreliable at times, the Attendance Team will also address student issues related to technology and will send that information to the appropriate department at MAHS and WCSD for corrective action.

In addition, the Attendance Team will also assist students and parents with non-technology issues by communicating to others in the school and school district who can provide resources and other assistance.

Be reminded that Spring Break will still be held starting on Saturday April 4 and ending on Sunday April 12, 2020. No school related activities will be held by our teachers during that time.

We will restart all on-line Distance Learning activities on Monday April 13, 2020 and continue through Friday April 24 or until we return to school.

As always, we appreciate our parents and others as we work together to educate our students. We also appreciate the steps our students, parents / guardians, and others are taking to ensure the safety of their families during this most difficult time.

Thank you,
Bryan Hicks
