MAHS COVID-19 Update

Hurricane Students, Parents and Guardians, and other Stakeholders,

Beginning Monday March 16, 2020 and until further notice, all students enrolled in the Walton County School District will transition to an online Distance Learning Model. MAHS Teachers will use the Schoology platform in order to deliver instruction, present material and assignments, and assess student learning.

Students will use their Chromebook, Schoology, and other resources to study the material, participate in discussions, and complete assignments. We hope that through the use of the Distance Learning Model, students will come close to or meet the pace of lesson delivery and learning experienced in the classroom.

Teachers at Monroe Area High School will convert lessons normally delivered in the classroom to an online version. The first of these lessons will be posted in Schoology by 10:00 AM Monday morning. It is important that your child sets a time each day to complete the assigned lessons and activities. Teachers will monitor their students’ progress and will communicate through email and Schoology throughout the day Monday through Friday.

Parents and guardians are asked to help their children through the process. It is important to provide a time and place for students to do their work. Parents can check the assignments on Schoology daily. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to check their students’ progress in Infinite Campus. Teachers may provide a grade for assignments or simply mark the Notes/Comment column indicating that an assignment has been turned in, is incomplete, or is complete.

Important Reminders:

Chromebook Pick up at Monroe Area High School will take place on Monday March 16 and Tuesday March 17, 2020 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM. Please come to the Receptionist Desk for assistance.

No one, with the exception of WCSD employees and those picking up Chromebooks, will be allowed on school grounds to include the school building, auxiliary buildings, ball fields, parking lots etc.

Beginning March 16, 2020 all school-related travel, extracurricular activities, sports, school events, field trips, etc. will be canceled while schools are closed.

On March 16, 2020 F.I.S.H (Faith in Serving Humanity -Monroe) will begin offering their Emergency FISH4Kids lunch program. For more information contact F.I.S.H directly at 770-207-4357 or online at https://www.fishofwalton.org/

As always, the education of your children is most successful when parents, guardians, family members and school staff work together to provide a safe and healthy learning environment. I appreciate the part our families play in the teaching and learning process.

Thank you,
