Useful information from the Walnut Grove Public Library
Parents,
Here is some useful information from Walnut Grove Public Library.

Welcome back!  My name is Dana Seger and I am the Library Manager at Walnut Grove Library.  I am very excited to share that our Regional office has purchased services for Tutor.com for all of our patrons.  Many of your students and their families already have library cards with our region and they just need to use that card number and their Pines password to set up an account with Tutor.com.  If they need any assistance with their password, they can just call us and we can help them to set that up. Tutor.com is for all students, as well as adults who are seeking job skills and resume building.  Beginning August 1, 2020, all member libraries of the Azalea Regional Library System will provide Tutor.com free to all library card holding patrons. This service started August 1, 2020 and will run through July 31, 2021.

What is it?

Tutor.com is an online tutoring service that provides homework help, live tutoring, test preparation, and career resources. During this time of virtual learning in many of our communities and school systems, I believe it will be heavily utilized and a welcomed addition to our online resource repertoire. A supported, informed, and educated citizenry is at the core of our mission and this service will enable us to meet critical needs and benefit all ages within our service population.

How does it work?

Patrons would be able to log in with their library card and have access to a live tutor (over 3,000 subject experts speaking both English and Spanish) 7 days a week during a 7 hour block of time. Each library would have their own access portal and enjoy unlimited users, unlimited sessions, and K-12, college, and adult content.

What does it offer?

Over 100 subject areas are featured, including test prep materials and career and job resources. Live tutoring sessions can be recorded and saved for review, contain a live chat feature, and have options where students can submit essays and papers for review.  College students have access to SAT study courses and prep materials and parents have access to information about colleges, FAFSA forms, and other college-related resources. There is a section with GRE, MCAT, LSAT, ASVAB, and AP exams and job-seeking adults can even receive resume and cover letter assistance and chat with a career coach.

This robust service would assist home school groups and families, parents trying to teach students at home through virtual learning classrooms, recent graduates looking for test prep assistance and college resources, and adults searching for employment. The service is adaptable for any smart phone or device so patrons can gain access from our library parking lots, where wifi still remains free and available 24/7.

Given the uncertainty we have been facing at this time, this may be just the resource we can all depend on if plans change and a strictly virtual environment becomes necessary, or if you just want to provide parents and students with additional assistance.  If you have any questions, feel free to give me a call or email me.

Have a great day!

Dana Seger
