School Empowerment Grants

As part of the School EmPOWERment Grants program, Walton EMC recently presented more than $241,500 to 34 schools in their 10-county service area. Nine WCSD schools received a total of $83,831 in grant funds to support various learning projects.
"Since 2017, Walton EMC has significantly impacted our schools by graciously donating almost $600,000 to fund various projects," said Superintendent Nathan Franklin. "We greatly appreciate their contributions and continued support of our students and staff. Their generosity has and will continue to make a lasting difference in our schools."
Walton EMC’s grant funds come from capital credit refunds that go unclaimed by former co-op customer-owners. After Walton EMC exhausts all efforts to find the rightful owners of the refunds, Georgia law allows the money to be used for community benefit.

“After providing reliable and reasonably-priced electric power, serving our community is next on the list,” said Walton EMC COO Ron Marshall. “Our School EmPOWERment Grant program is a perfect example of the cooperative principle ‘concern for community.’”
