Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center
Generally, on-site programming will follow all COVID-19 safety measures which are implemented during day school. However, in some instances, after school safety measures may be more stringent.
The Walton County School District, in cooperation with its advisory board The Partnership for Families, Children and Youth, provides the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center program at four schools (CMS/HES/MES/WGES), grades K-8 in the district. The programs operate outside of school hours for at least 12 hours weekly. The Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC programs provide a high-quality after school program that responds to the identified needs of students and their families, specifically addressing academic under-achievement, limited cultural experiences, and low attendance rates in a positive and safe environment that empowers students to grown socially, emotionally, and academically.
The program aligns with the regular day curriculum and utilizes community partners to ensure all resources are in place. The goals are to: (1) increase academic performance through engaging academic activities; (2) foster whole child development through high-quality enrichment and support activities; and (3) increase family engagement and student success through adult literacy education and family focused events.
Goals are measured through Georgia Milestones End of Grade scores, classroom grades, homework completion, class participation, behavior reports and student/teacher/parent survey data.
