Charter School Petition Deadlines

For Opening Fall of 2027

• Letter of Intent Deadline: July 1, 2025
• Petition Deadline: On or before January 1, 2026
• School Board Decision: On or before June 30, 2026
• Pre-opening Period: 12-18 months, opening August 2027

For Opening Fall of 2028

• Letter of Intent Deadline: July 1, 2026
• Petition Deadline: on or before January 1, 2027
• School Board Decision: On or before June 30, 2027
• Pre-opening Period: 12-18 months, opening August 2028

For Opening Fall of 2029

• Letter of Intent Deadline: July 1, 2027
• Petition Deadline: on or before January 1, 2028
• School Board Decision: on or before June 30, 2028
• Pre-opening period: 12-18 months, opening August 2029

Petition Process

A Letter of Intent must be timely received by Walton County Board of Education and by the Office of Charter School Compliance by the applicable deadline.  Letters of Intent should be directed to the Superintendent.  An in-person interview is required as part of the petition process. The Walton County Board of Education will approve or deny the petition no later than the School Board Decision deadline. If the petition is denied, within 20 days, a detailed statement of the denial will be provided to the petitioner, the State Board of Education and the Office of Charter School Compliance with all required elements.
