Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl

Reading Bowl

Are you a voracious reader?
Do you excel at games like Jeopardy?
Do you love competition?

Then Reading Bowl is for you!

The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl ("HRRB") is a reading competition offered to 6-8 graders at Carver.  Helen Ruffin, a media specialist in Dekalb County, created the competition.  She served on the selection committee for the Georgia Children’s Book Award nominee program. This literature program began in the Department of Language Education at the University of Georgia’s College of Education. The program inspired her to use the nominee books to encourage her students to read.

The bowl is a competition between schools and uses questions from the Georgia Book Award nominees in a quiz bowl-like format.

There are 4 competitions: District, Regionals, Divisionals and State. At each round, the top 2 schools move on in a single elimination process.

If you are interested in being on the team, please see Ms. Lowe in the Media Center.
