MAHS TOTY and SPOTY

Sarah Hinkle has been teaching at Monroe Area High School since 2013. She graduated from MAHS in 2008 and returned after earning a Bachelor's degree in adapted curriculum special education from UGA. This is her fifth year serving as Monroe Area High School's moderate intellectual disabilities instructor/Special Olympics sponsor and third year as sponsor for the Partnerships for Success Club. Ms. Hinkle has known that she wanted to teach special education since she developed a close friendship with a classmate with an autism spectrum disorder during high school. She celebrates neurodiversity and works to close the gap between neurotypical individuals and individuals with exceptionalities. She is proud to be a double hurricane. Ms. Hinkle approaches her job with excitement because it allows her to pursue her interests in neurodiversity while participating as an active member of the teaching community at this school.

Annie Brooks has worked at Monroe Area High School since 2001. She is currently the Media Center Paraprofessional, and has served in that position for 14 of her 17 years at Monroe Area. She loves working in the Media Center because she can assist faculty members and students with a variety of needs, including helping with book selection and checkout, Chromebook repair, or helping students with school projects. She is valued by our media specialist and technology integration specialist for many reasons, but especially for her ability to work with students. Ms. Brooks was born in Barrow County and graduated from Glenwood High School. She has three children, all alumni of Monroe Area High School.
