Flagpole Pick Up

July 31, 2017

Dear Walker Park Flagpole Parents:

We will begin Flagpole pick-up on August 7th, 2017, please designate your child/children as “Flagpole” by completing the Pick-up Information form. Attached is the WPES Identification form, please complete it and return to your child’s teacher asap. Upon your request, we can send home the official WPES Flagpole Student Identification form for each child on your list. The pick-up person must bring the WPES Flagpole Student I.D. form with a Photo I.D. in order to pick up. This should be a current Georgia State Drivers License or I.D. Any extenuating circumstances must be pre-approved in the front office. A Walker Park Elementary School staff member will release each student to their approved pick up person.

Parking for flagpole students is at the end lot to the left of the school as you enter. Please do not park in the front parking lot. Dismissal for flagpole students will begin promptly at 3:20p. It is imperative that you pick up students in a timely manner and exit the parking lot immediately and be respectful and cordial to other drivers entering and exiting. I strongly suggest that you arrive NO LATER than 3:25p and NO SOONER than 3:15p! Students will be picked- up on the sidewalk that leads to the 4th grade hallway which is the same as the previous year. You will need to line up behind the line drawn on the sidewalk and “on” the sidewalk parallel to the parking lot. Due to the growing number of car riders, we have experienced some instances where safety has become more of concern and that’s our Number One Priority.

If you are late picking up, please proceed to the car-rider line in front of the school and a staff member will bring your child/children to the front of the school. This will eliminate flagpole parents from driving around other cars on Carl Davis Road that are waiting to drive into the circular area. Flagpole pick-up is a privilege and we would like to continue to offer that to you, but we need everyone’s cooperation in order for it to continue. We cannot permit this to compromise school safety and our instructional schedule. If you arrive early, we ask that you remain in your vehicle until 3:15p. This should eliminate the need to bring lawn/folding chairs for those who may not be able to stand for extended periods of time. The other option would be to utilize the car rider lane and remain in your vehicle.

In addition, if you are a parent who picks up other parents’ student(s) from the middle or high school in order for them to be picked-up with their siblings at Walker Park, you are responsible for the supervision of those children. Please do not leave students unattended and/or allow them to play on the grounds while you wait. This is a SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN that has been brought to our attention. Please work-out the logistics before you agree to transport other parents’ children. No PETS will be allowed on the physical grounds. There’s not a problem with you having your PETS properly secured in your vehicle as long as they are not left unsupervised or pose an endangerment to others.

We appreciate your support and understanding in advance and if you have any questions or concerns, please stop by the front office or give us a call at (770) 207-3240.

Sincerely,
S. Royal, Ed.D.
Principal
