Student Services - Home School
As of July 1, 2012, the responsibility of home school reporting moved from the local school systems to the Georgia Department of Education (GA DOE) in Atlanta. For information regarding home school guidelines including the Declaration of Intent, attendance, curriculum, testing, work permits, learner’s permit, driver’s license and more can be found by going to www.doe.k12.ga.us and in the search bar, enter “home school”.
To submit your Declaration of Intent electronically, go to www.doe.k12.ga.us. After you click submit you will see a screen that will show a 36 unique character parent signature line.
IMPORTANT - Print a copy of the screen with that number for your records. This will serve as confirmation of enrollment (your official document of the GA Home Study Program) and will be required when your child wants a learner’s permit, driver’s license, work permit, post-secondary admission, military enlistment and all other entities that require proof of education.

To enroll your child in home school: follow the steps above and after you have your printed confirmation of enrollment, call your child’s school and arrange to withdraw.
To withdraw your child from home school to obtain a GED: go to the GA DOE website, download and print and then follow the instructions on the two documents below:
Laws affecting home school in Georgia (Georgia Codes 20-2-690 and 20-2-690.1) are on the Georgia General Assembly’s website. Select “Georgia Code” on the left of the homepage, and enter the code numbers to search the laws.
