2016 - 2017 Highlights
  • Observed baby trout and monitored their progress...Thanks, Mr. Hope!
  • Visited Dauset Trails Nature Center in Jackson, GA...lots of animals, hiking and a picnic!
  • Collected over 300 books to donate to a local elementary school...Reuse!  Don't throw away those old books!
  • Visited Callaway Gardens for our annual trip to the Butterfly House and Bird Show
  • Participated in Monroe Clean-up Day...got 2nd place!!
  • Had our first Annual Nature Photo Contest....winners can be seen on this site.
  • Delivered wildflower seeds to every YMS teacher for Earth Day
  • Visited DeSoto Caverns in Alabama and had a blast at their maze, gem mining and cave tour...nature is amazing!

2015 - 2016 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Saw and petted a baby squirrel (Buttercup)......Thank you, Mrs. Brown!!
  • Took home baby tree to plant ...Thank you, Mrs. Clayton!
  • Observed tiny baby trout and saw them under a microscope....Thank you, Mr. Hope!!
  • Visited Callaway Gardens and saw the Birds of Prey show
  • Went to Bear Hollow and petted an opossum!  Surprisingly soft!!
  • Went to Watson Mill State Park and played on the rocks and in the water.
  • Went fishing at Charlie Elliott Nature Center
  • Climbed Arabia Mountain and visited AWARE Wildlife Rescue Center

THINGS FOR YOU TO DO AT HOME:
  • Put up a bird feeder.
  • Write letters to legislators about sponsoring  a "bottle bill" and other environmental issues.
  • RECYCLE: Paper!!   Bottles!!   Plastic!!  Cans!!!  Other metals!!
  • Pick up litter when you see it.
  • Don't use unnecessary chemicals in your garden.
  • Plant flowers to attract butterflies and other pollinators.
  • Don't keep wild animals for pets.
  • Call a wildlife rehabilitator if you see an injured animal.
  • Support state and national parks.

How you can get involved:  Share a nature topic you are interested in, go along on field trips, help get a can recycling program at school (we need a TRAILER), help your child learn to be a responsible steward of the environment.
