Certification

Teachers foster creativity, develop character, and provide students with the skills they need to reach their potential and lead productive lives. There is perhaps no other career that offers the same opportunities to give to others and receive such a sense of accomplishment.

The Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) affirms that educator preparation programs meet standards of quality so their completers will be eligible for state certification. State-approved programs* are professional education programs based on established state standard and delivered as traditional or alternative routes to certification. A list of approved programs and approved universities can be found at www.gapsc.com.

Certificate Renewal – Beginning July 1, 2017, professional learning linked to educator certificate renewal must be done as continuous job-embedded learning rather than through workshops that award professional learning units. The goal is to improve teaching and learning by changing how educators engage in professional learning as they work collaboratively with colleagues. For more information reference Certification Rule 505-2-.36.

* Be sure to check with the PSC before starting coursework at a university that you feel might be associated with certification. Graduating from an unapproved program will not lead to upgrades or pay increases.
